Seoul to Jeonju: KTX or Express Bus, and Can You Do It as a Day Trip?

From Seoul, Jeonju is about 1 h 40 min to 2 h by KTX and usually around 3 h 10 min by express bus (about 2 h 40 min at night with no traffic). KTX is the fastest; the bus is cheaper. Leave Seoul before 9 a.m. and you can easily see the Hanok Village, Jeondong Cathedral and Nambu Market in one day.

01KTX — fastest
Seoul Station or Yongsan Station → Jeonju Station, about 1 h 40 min to 2 h. From Jeonju Station to the Hanok Village it is about 20 minutes by taxi or city bus. Weekend and holiday trains sell out, so book ahead (Let's Korail website for foreign visitors).
02Express bus — cheaper
Seoul Central City Terminal (Express Bus Terminal Station) → Jeonju Express Bus Terminal, usually around 3 h 10 min in daytime traffic, about 2 h 40 min at night; weekends and holidays can take longer. About 15 minutes by taxi to the Hanok Village.
03Suggested day-trip route
09:00 leave Seoul (KTX) → 11:00 Hanok Village & Gyeonggijeon → 12:30 bibimbap lunch → 14:00 Jeondong Cathedral & Pungnammun Gate → 16:00 Nambu Market → 18:30 train back from Jeonju Station.
04Fares and luggage
Fares change with train type, seat and day, so the booking screen shows the exact price. Leave luggage in lockers at Jeonju Station or the bus terminal, or drop it at your hotel first if you stay the night.
